I previously signed up for Dreamhost, now this was back two years ago before they got big, in fact too big. I was using 1/100th of the resources that I could use.
I am a faithful Web 2.0 show listener so I knew about Steel Pixel. I actually was hoping to sign up for their hosting for life, but I missed it by a few weeks. So I signed up for their Bronze plan. Most people would scoff at the measly 15 GB of transfer and 1 GB of storage a month, but it is just right for me.
Besides the size of the hosting plan fitting my needs, I wanted to go with a smaller hosting company. They have their bumps just like the big boys, but I can log into a campfire chat room and chat with the owners if I need to. Find a big company that allows you to do that.
I would recommend them to anyone, so if you are looking to switch let them know the guy from shoeinthedoor.com sent you.
The seperate, interwoven plot lines are a character unto themselves. Which I suppose is brilliant, but at the same time it made me feel like I was watching a TV show more than a movie.
This movie made me think, which is what it was designed to do.
So I tried to add a phone number to my Address Book. It appears the only thing that Apple Support lost when I sent my laptop in was that file. No problem I have Bluetooth. One Sync later I have no phone numbers in my address book or my phone. Arggh!
So if you know me and want me to have your phone number, email it to me.

A new design for erinandjake.com. For those that only know me from Vox, I actually have a website that I share with Erin, my wife. Since both of us like blogging on Vox for personal stuff, and have "work" blogs. I figured the best thing to do with that site is to make an agregator.
I'm using MagpieRSS to grab the RSS feeds. Since Vox, Blogger, xFruits, and WordPress all use ATOM and RSS slightly differently I had to write some custom stuff to make thee feeds work together.
The slider is straight out of the Scriptalicious library. The idea is a more intuitive interface to change the way you see the feeds. I hacked on some JavaScript to make it clickable for those who might not know it is a slider.
I used PHP-Flickr to pull some of my most recent sets from Flickr to display across the bottom.
Art wise I really like that picture of Erin and I, although I know it makes my head look huge. I think it does a good job on both of our eyes. Of course my illustration of Erin and I is classic and makes me laugh.
I also decided that if people wanted the full list view of the posts, there should be some way to indicate where the post came from. So I created icons. That is using a cool method called CSS Sprites. You can see a problem if the post title wraps to two lines, you can see the next image down the sprite. I could leave more space on the sprite, I may come back to it, or I may not.
Overall this is the first design of any website I have done (save the By The Way Design that never saw the light of day) that I'm really comfortable with.
Feel free to comment both positive and negative.
I read The Daily WTF every day. Today's is too classic not to repost. It is an amazing thing to watch someone convince someone else that their way, no mater how idiotic is the right way.
A church in Richmond is giving away burritos to visitors. I can't imagine when Erin is pastoring a church she will not be all over this!
I think it is a great way for churches to be part of the community they serve. The next step is to ask Chipotle to provide free food to something like the hypothermia shelter churches is NoVA do every winter.
Then the next step is getting Chipotle to volunteer employees to serve at these events.
Partnership with local businesses means developing relationships with local people, which is a good thing.
