Brenda has a new home. We don't shred the hamster, don't worry.
I'm going to keep this short, because when CNN is doing searches on Amazon for the word "nappy" the end must be near.
They found 160 song entries for "nappy" probably because there is a group called the Nappy Roots, but no one seemed to raise the same uproar when then had a few hits. Nor did anyone say anything when Ludacris' song "Area Codes" that starts of, "I got hoes, I got hoes in different area codes," became a hit.
These songs might be equally offensive to women, but then why does the National Runaway Switchboard honor Luda? And where were the outcries when SNL aired the Racist Word Association sketch? I understand this was aired more than 25 years ago, but what is said in this sketch has been relegated to letter-word status, i.e. the F-word or the N-word.
I'm not defending Imus, what we said was stupid and over the line, but that happens in comedy shows. A few years ago a host down here in Washington, D.C. referred to Jewish people as "Heebs" his two Jewish co-hosts quickly corrected him that "Heebs" is not appropriate. He now has a nationally syndicated show. Where was the anti-defamation league?
If comedians can get suspended for offending a racial or gender group then say goodbye to Chris Rock, Carlos Mencia and Jeff Foxworthy. I would say you would also have to say goodbye to Margaret Cho, but no one things she's funny anyway.
I understand words have implications and it is important we think before we speak, but if there is no room for forgiveness and benefit of the doubt on what amounts to a 4 hour a day, every day improv show, then the words that people will use will start to be lowest common denominator words that aren't fun and don't make us think. We are on the way to becoming doubleplusgood duckspeakers.
The Washington Post sent a world renowned classical musician into the Metro, and some interesting things happened.
Posting some reflections on Holy Week services. We sang, "Crown Him with Many Crowns." I was thinking of the dichotomy between Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem and his exit just a few days later.
My first thought was that this was the same crowd that calls for Jesus death and ushers him to death instead of a throne. Then I thought a bit more and I think it is yet another example where Jesus did not act according to the World's expectations.
Jesus did leave Jerusalem triumphant, not over temporal powers but over Sin and Death. This was not the triumph the crowd shouting "Hosanna" wanted, but it is the one they needed.
So we got a Wii for Christmas. Sort of, of course we couldn't find one, but I scoured the internets and found a great bundle from KB Toys. Like a bonehead I put in 1/2 of my home and 1/2 of my work so I had to call UPS to have them hold it in Springfield for me.
I brought it home and it is shiny! I have played over 24 hours of Zelda so far, so I have had to put a parental lock on all gaming. I know the code but at least I have to enter it every time it makes me think for a few more moments.
The picture with this post should tell you all you need to know about why we have a Wii and not an XBOX 360 or PS3. I would have never got Dan and Bobbi to play with our new toy.
I'm just looking forward to getting my parents on the thing when they come back from Myrtle Beach this weekend.
If you are thinking about getting one they are tons of fun I recommend it. Now back out to Erin who is reliving her childhood trying to play Super Mario Brothers, without Game Genie!
My Wii friend code is: 8565 0921 1213 3991 post yours in the comments!
Erin is two count them two places on the internets:
It's nice to know someone so famous.
So it has been a while since I wrote for these pages, and a bunch of stuff has happened. I'm not going to cram it into one super long post. Instead I'm going to write about what I'm going to write about, which hopefully will force me to write about it.
- Residency 2 of my graduate school classes
- We got a Wii
- Candidacy retreat in Lancaster
- Computer goes into the shop, again
- Silas Partners got purchased.
I previously signed up for Dreamhost, now this was back two years ago before they got big, in fact too big. I was using 1/100th of the resources that I could use.
I am a faithful Web 2.0 show listener so I knew about Steel Pixel. I actually was hoping to sign up for their hosting for life, but I missed it by a few weeks. So I signed up for their Bronze plan. Most people would scoff at the measly 15 GB of transfer and 1 GB of storage a month, but it is just right for me.
Besides the size of the hosting plan fitting my needs, I wanted to go with a smaller hosting company. They have their bumps just like the big boys, but I can log into a campfire chat room and chat with the owners if I need to. Find a big company that allows you to do that.
I would recommend them to anyone, so if you are looking to switch let them know the guy from shoeinthedoor.com sent you.
The seperate, interwoven plot lines are a character unto themselves. Which I suppose is brilliant, but at the same time it made me feel like I was watching a TV show more than a movie.
This movie made me think, which is what it was designed to do.
