We got V for Vendetta as part of our NetFlix que. I had heard a lot about this movie so I was looking forward to checking it out. Since most people that read this blog know me, they know my particular political proclivities (I love alliteration and the movie did nothing but ecourage that love). For those that do not, while attending Grove City College I interned at The Heritage Foundation and worked for Senator Rick Santorum before leaving to work at a place called Christianity.com (I won't link to the last one as we sold that piece of the businesss).
So one might say I have a conservative pedigree. I would still consider myself on the right, although I have seldom reffered to myself as a conservative, prefering Hayek's description as an "old wig" as the closest to satisfactory.
Overall I am not completly displeased by our government's actions following the terrorists attacks five years ago, but I am disquited by them.
We have never seen a mature republican (small "r" as after all we are not a democracy) government fall back into a state of tyranny, but V for Vendatta certianly paints of a picture of how that could happen.
For my part I fall somewhere between the extermists on both sides, which probably means I'm right, but it also means I ripe for the picking for either side to advance their agenda while I'm more worried about how I'm going to pay for grad school.
I'm glad it didn't take this movie for me to think some of the thoughts this movie is supposed to make on think, but I'm also thankful for the opportunity to think them again.
