So after Birmingham I flew back to DC. Flying on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving was a risk. Our plane pulled up to the Birmingham terminal about 20 minutes late and they announced that were were on a 1 and 1/2 hour ground hold. Well my connecting flight left 45 minutes after my first flight landed. I hoped the ground hold will slow everything down, or I might have been renting a car from Charlotte.
About 10 seconds later the pilot came bounding back up the jetway and they announced if we left right now, and I never heard the rest, because everyone in the terminal rushed to the podium. It's funny, they do the whole boarding by zone because it makes boarding faster, but simply saying ready, set, go was the fastest boarding I have ever done. We got to Charlotte and I had no problem making my flight.
Got to sleep in a but Thursday before we headed over to church for a Thanksgiving service. In general I w
asn't to excited about the prospect of church on Thanksgiving, it is a day to be with family. However, the service
was filled with family. People's grand-kids in matching sport coats, people I had never seen in church before. It still is a bit odd to me, but here at Lord of Life it appears to be a tradition that many of incorporated into their family tra
ditions.
Traffic up to PA was great, no real stops the whole way. The Boyer Thanksgiving is always a great time. Mary's boyfriend was over so Dan got to guys to watch football with him. I'm glad Dan is getting some boys in the house after being surounded for all these years. Eventually we will have to have some sort of Boyer extended family football game.
The trip out to New Brighton on Friday was fine as well. I got to follow my Dad as we made like NASCAR drivers thorugh the "S" curves on the Turnpike. Both Erin and my mom are convinced we are crazy, but crossing three lanes of traffic in a Saturn station wagon isn't crazy, it is appropriate and exilerating.
We had the Hot Dog Shoppe for lunch on Friday, which subtracted a few minutes from my life, but it is ohh so good. Dinner was Pizza and beer with my uncles, Aunt Gina and Billy. I also had the pleasure of sharing a drink with Uncle Bill at the New Brighton Vets.
Saturday was Rachel's shower, I didn't go but I hear it was girl-rific. Maybe is she responded to my VOX invite we might hear from my sister, huh huh. It was great to hang out with Shawn this weekend. I don't have a brother, so I am very excited to have a brother-in-law.
The trip back was lots of traffic, not so much that we stopped - that is until we got to exit 42 on 70. Then we stopped and crawled till about 270. It gave Erin enough time to bang out her sermon. I'm willing to say this was the first sermon written in a car going over the Appilachian mountains.
Now there is another week ahead, and then Chrysalis. I'm pretty sure I have more to do than time allows, but I feel oddly excited about the concept of getting it all done despite the fact that I may not rest until a week from today. At the begining of this month I didn't expect the last two weeks of November to be so eventful, I wonder what next month will bring.
